  • DALLAS, TX-- The grand opening of the White Rock Lake Museum at the Bath House Cultural Center (521 E. Lawther Drive) will be held on Saturday the 18th of September from 12pm until 5pm. Dallasites are encouraged to visit the museum to learn of the Blackland Prairie and ancient Indian settlements that once covered the area and to remember days gone by of wooden boat races and swimming at the bath house.
  • "The mission of the White Rock Lake Museum is to preserve and present the human and natural history of White Rock Lake Park and its surrounding environment," says Museum President Kurt Kretsinger. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the museum and learn about the history of the park as well as participate in the events planned for the opening day. Free events for all ages will include:

    The events officially begin after the honorary Chairwoman, Mary Poss, cuts the ribbon at 12:22pm

    • 12:30 : White Rock Lake historian Steven Butler will be there to sign copies of his book about the lake, and to also give a lecture of the history of the lake.
    • 1:30 : Pianist Marsha Webb will be sharing the music from her CD, a tribute to the White Rock Lake, "White Rock."
    • 2:00 : Fun for the Children: "fish faces" and finger painting.
    • 2:30 : The Department of Geologiocal Sciences at Southern Methodist University will give a presentation of local formations called "White Rock Rocks."
    • 3:00 : More fun for the Children: Sailboat making.
    • 3:30 : Marsha Webb will be performing a finale for the day.

    In order to help turn the White Rock Lake Museum into a reality, the Dallas Park Department has pledged $10,000 to the White Rock Lake Museum and the Office of Cultural Affairs has promised $15,000.
